Making Your Piano Sound Right Again

Who I Am

My name is Trey Stephens, and having been a pianist the majority of my life. I hold the instrument in high regard. I love working on them; bringing such a powerful instrument back to life has become a passion of mine. Seeing the look on people’s faces after hearing the sound and feeling the keys of that old piano they’d almost lost hope in resurrected, it’s just something I can’t get enough of.

After seeing the prices, locations, and density of tuners in central Florida, I realized it was a position that was dreadfully underserved. The lifespan of your instrument shouldn’t be limited to your location, or budget for that matter. Restoring and managing the sound of your piano is something that, I believe, requires a personal relationship with the instrument as well as the customer. I want to look out for you just as much as your piano.

So, just like working on the instrument is a blessing to me, I hope I can be a blessing to you!

Services

  • Consultation (Free)

I think we all can agree that you should know exactly what problems your piano has before hiring someone to fix it. I’ll drive to you and walk you through exactly what your piano needs, top to bottom, all for free. (Travel fees may apply if outside of typical service range)

  • Basic Tuning (Starting at $75)

Sometimes all a piano needs is a basic tuning. For that, I have you covered. On a normal job I can have your piano sounding right in 2-3 hours.

Pianos should be tuned at least twice a year. I will make sure to take notes on your specific piano, its environmental conditions, and musician playing style to insure it is tuned exactly how you want it.

  • Cleaning/Minor Repairs (Starting at $150)

A little TLC never hurt anything, but maybe that piano of yours needs more than just a tuning. You’d be shocked at the different problems that can show up inside your piano over the years.

From cracked keys to snapped hammers, simply playing the piano can cause problems depending on how old it is. Speaking of age, from simple dust and grime to the stray toy car, anything can make its way into a piano.

  • Certainly! One important factor to consider is the distance. Depending on how far I need to travel, travel fees might be added to your free consultation and could influence the total cost of tuning or repairs. That being said, I enjoy driving and have a passion for pianos, so reaching you isn’t an issue. The service area mainly helps me determine when travel fees or price changes may apply.

  • As much as I’d love to, I simply don’t have the resources, time, or experience to perform something like a full piano restoration. I’m fully capable of minor repairs to different parts of the piano. If a piano needs restoration that usually means the problems the piano likely has is extensive and would need the care of an individual with an air conditioned facility with the tools needed to perform the restoration.

That said, if the piano is old/damaged enough to require a full restoration, I may just recommend purchasing a new piano instead.

  • Generally speaking, a tuning can take anywhere between 2-3 hours depending on the age of the piano, environment it was kept in, as well as when the last tuning was performed. If a piano hasn’t been tuned in a long time, it will likely require more than one tuning to get it exactly where it needs to be as it can take some time before the wire actually stays in place.

  • The time it takes to clean or repair a piano is dependent upon the state of the piano itself. Sometimes it’s as quick as an hour, other times I’m there for a significant portion of the day. Ideally these things would be worked out during the consultation so your day can be as uninterrupted as possible.

There are times where I may need to order parts for your piano depending on whether or not I can fix the issue on location with the tools available to me. If a second visit is required, the time frame will be dependent on how long it take the parts to get to me.

  • A typical consultation will generally take 30 minutes to an hour. I will take the main pieces of the piano apart, make note of the interior/exterior, and test every key to make sure everything is functioning as it should. If I find a problem, I may remove more pieces to diagnose it before making any recommendations.

Ideally, I like to have customer with me so I can explain exactly what I’m doing and what the problem is. NO FUNNY BUSINESS HERE! Nothing is worse than someone fabricating a problem. That said, if you’d prefer to get on with your day while I diagnose your instrument, there’s no problem with that either.

  • I’m available most afternoons of the week save for Wednesdays, Sundays, and some Fridays. I have other jobs I work aside from this so sometimes my schedule can be a little hectic! Rest assured, I will do everything I can to accommodate you. I know you probably have a busy schedule as well!
